What is Cancer Grade?

Lower-grade cancers are usually less aggressive and have a better diagnosis. The more different/abnormal the cells look and organize themselves, the higher the cancer grade. Cancer cells with high grades tend to be more dangerous. They are called undifferentiated or badly differentiated.
Some cancers have their system for grading tumors. Another common grading scale is 1-4.
Grade 1: Generally, tumor cells and tissues look similar to healthy ones. These are called well-differentiated tumors and are low grade.
Grade 2: The cells and tissue are somewhat unusual and are called reasonably distinguished. These tumors are intermediate-grade.
Grade 3: At this grade, Cancer cells and tissue look very different/ abnormal. These cancers are considered badly distinguished because they no longer have a pattern or architectural structure. Tumor at this stage is considered high grade.
Grade 4: Cancer cells at this stage look most abnormal. These are the highest grade and usually grow and spread out faster than lower grade growths.
What is Cancer Stage?
While a grade describes the look of cancer cells and tissue, the cancer stage discusses how big the primary tumor is and how far cancer has spread in the patient’s body. There are several various staging systems. Much of these have been developed for a particular type of cancer. Others can be used to explain several types of cancer.
Stage 0 to stage IV
One typical system that many people are aware of puts cancer on a scale of 0 to IV.
Stage 0- Abnormal cells that have not spread yet and are not considered cancer, though they could become cancerous in the future.
Stage I to Stage III – These stages cover cancers that have not spread out beyond the main tumor site or have only spread to nearby tissue. The greater the stage number, the larger the tumour and the more it has spread.
Stage IV- In this stage, other parts and vital organs of the body are considered infected with cancer.
Greater numbers normally imply more extensive illness, bigger tumor size, and/or spread of cancer beyond the organ where it initially developed.
